The Problem

100 million Americans have high blood pressure. 2 out of 3 seniors suffer from it. Only about half of those with high blood pressure have it fully under control. According to the Mayo Clinic, high blood pressure increases the chance of heart attacks, strokes, heart failure, kidney problems, and dementia.

The Program

Recent changes in federal health care policy have made it possible to obtain in-home equipment for remote monitoring of blood pressure, which connects to the doctor’s office. The patient will have a wireless blood-pressure cuff, which records data daily. The cuff sends that data through a hub to a server, where the information is available to other family members (if desired) via their smart phones, and to the doctor and his/her staff. The daily information helps the patient and family better manage the situation, and helps the doctor better monitor the patient and prescribe medicine if/as appropriate. If this system is prescribed by a doctor for a patient who has chronic blood pressure problems, then the cost of the equipment, system, and monitoring can be covered by Medicaid or Medicare or most health insurance systems.

There is absolutely no cost to you or your family. BlueStar is not trying to sell you anything.

How You Can Participate

There are four basic steps:

  1. An initial phone call interview with you to see if your family might potentially qualify
  2. A formal over-the-phone patient assessment with the doctor
  3. If appropriate, the doctor will prescribe the system. It will be shipped to you, and we’ll explain to your family how to use it. (It’s very easy, we promise!)
  4. After the system is up and operating, your family and your doctor can use the data to better manage the condition. If you don’t have a family doctor, one of our doctors can help you manage the condition.
