Fourth of July has been a federal holiday in the United States since 1941 but the celebrations date back to 1776 when the Continental Congress and the 13 colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence that was written by Thomas Jefferson.
On this day, our nation comes together to celebrate the freedoms we enjoy. The freedoms made possible to us by the service members, veterans, and their families. Just like these Americans who responded to the call of duty to defend our nation, we find it our duty to ensure that veterans and their families have a safe environment to live in as they age.
As we celebrate our nation’s birthday on this Independence Day, we should remind ourselves that the reason we can enjoy backyard barbecues, cookouts, and fireworks is because of the Americans who guard our liberties. Please take a moment on this day to thank those who served and those who are still serving.
Take a moment and evaluate how you can help our nation’s veterans and your own family members who served.
